Development of the periodic table

You are visiting the Science For All site

Aims: By the end of the task, students should be aware of the contributions that Döbereiner, Newlands, Mendeleev and Moseley made to the development of the periodic table. They will also have been discouraged from wholesale copying and pasting of information from internet sites and have had experience of multitasking using a word processing program and an internet browser at the same time on their monitor screen. Literacy skills will also be utilised in order to assemble the final document.

Outcome: A document from each group.

Timing: 2 x 1hr sessions

Preparation: Load the question sheet onto the school intranet. Download the relevant pages from the internet in case the connection is dodgy! A supply of rough paper will also be needed.

Activity: Preamble about multitasking, not simply copying/pasting, aims and outcome. Students then load up the question sheet in Word and follow the instructions. I found that they were skipping the linking information so it would be useful to make a fuss about that although I have now hopefully made it more obvious on the document!
