Natural and synthetic materials activity

An information collection and handling activity based on a set of cards that are spread round the room. It takes about 1 hour but could easily be shortened. It is designed to enable students to recognise examples of natural and synthetic materials and their origins.

Dissolving vocabulary

A lesson that utilises a variety of skills in order to learn the meanings of vocabulary associated with the concept of dissolving. Includes a powerpoint download for reinforcing some key vocabulary.

Solubility

The outline for 2 lessons on the topic together with a differentiated worksheet (graphs and questions).

Stretching (Forces - QCA scheme of work unit K)

A lesson based on the stretch of a spring. In terms of practical skills, it includes graph drawing and evaluation.

A lesson for teaching the difference between mass and weight.

A lesson in which students utilise their speaking and listening skills in order to develop and consolidate their knowledge of the formation of coal, oil and gas.

An activity for teaching the ways in which plants and animals cope with winter conditions.

Recognising chemical reactions (Simple chemical reactions - QCA scheme of work unit F)

Making observations and generalising about the ways in which chemical reactions can be recognised.
